CHD got it from Harley in 10 (business) days, then 2 (business) days to ship. Calendar days 19... ordered on July 9th. Recieved July 28th.

Install was about 15 minutes....the rubber o-ring slowed me down...put a little hand soap on it and the new speedo slid right in.

I run a Thundermax w/ Autotune so I "re-initialized" it after install since I pulled the ECM fuse and disco'ed the battery.

Reconnected everything and she lit right up. After a quick check of the lights and signals... I fired it up.

The Tacho jumped and settled just under the 1000 RPM mark. Which is correct since I know the TMax is set to idle at 960. Speedo has a Clock, Trip A, Trip B, ODO and "RANGE - Miles to Empty." Engine and security lights function as designed.

I was pleasantly surprised to see the "Range" actually working. Since installing the TMax on the "stock" speedo....range vanished.

I only drove for a few miles but all seemed good. Will put some more miles on it this weekend and update.

Took the new speedo for a 40 mile ride this AM. One previous poster asked if this speedo had the 6th Gear Indicator. Answer is YES. Very bright big number 6. Bottom row second from the left. This speedo is BRIGHT! Left the house at 0530 hours and it was still dark...this thing lit up like beacon. While it is bright it is "easy" on the eyes....nice warm red light. Easy to see the LED speed too. The Tach is well lit too....multiple red backlights in there around the bezel.

One thing I did notice is that the speedo is off by minus 2-3 mph between 60 - 70 mph. So when it says 60 you are doing 62-63. I was comparing it to my Garmin Zumo 450 which was perfectly in-sync with my OEM "stock" speedo. Since I run a Thundermax ECM I may be able to adjust it. Will look into that.

Other than that...I am very happy with this speedo.

Emailed Zippers Support with the speedo calibration question. They sent me a nice little calculator for tweaking the speedo cal number. Simply put in the original number 42450 (for 07 Softails and up), the MPH reading on the speedo, the MPH reading from another source ie my GPS. Then it calculates a new value...for my 08 FXSTC running the 74714-10 the new number is 41508. Now the speedo is dead on accurate!

Just wanted to let people know that I put the new digital speedo and tach on my 07 FLSTC today and it works just fine, went to the dealer about 3 weeks ago and asked about it cause the catalog says for 08 and newer models , but the parts man and the shop man got together looked at the wire harness and it all looked the same to them, so we ordered it and it works great. Now I even have the range ,or distance to empty feature that I did not have before. Needless to say I am excited that it worked.

Hi Guys,

I have this speedo coming and I tune using TTS. I have read early in the thready that I need to disconnect the ASSY fuse, but I am a little confused. Does that mean I need to reflash?? Or do you mean I need to pull the fuse if I want to flash in the future?

I am hoping it goes like this, but can you please confirm.

Remove ASSY Fuse
Remove Old speedo
Install new Speedo
Install ASSY Fuse
Ride off into the sunset

Is that correct

Cheers

It's always best to disconnect the battery when installing/replacing an electrical component but... I think most that have replaced their speedo simply took the old speedo out and plugged up the digital one and done. Personally I like to disconnect the neg battery cable first.

For your flashing question. There is no need to reflash your bike because you installed a new speedo but due to the makeup of this digital speedo, if you do ever flash your bike again, you will need to pull the assy fuse to kill one of the power legs to this speedo or the TTS will come up with an error code.

This new speedo constantly looks for a reserve gas signal from the ECM when powered on and will not release the ECM for flashing. Pulling the ASSY fuse stops this and allows for a clean flash.

Hope this helps.

Aha!! Yep - got it. Thanks so much for your help.

I am like you. I pull the battery - better safe than letting the smoke out.

So you pull the assy fuse while you are doing the flash? then put it back when you are done.
