Hello Group,
I have an '08 Softail Custom with only 300 miles on it. (could'nt ride due to injuries)
Is it okay to put in HD sythetic oil now or should I wait till I get more miles on it?
Thanks.
Paulie in Michigan
If you're ready for a fluid change, there's no reason you can't do it now. The synthetic oil is just better stuff than regular oil. I always go synthetic on my first oil change on a new bike. Go for it.

Can you please elaborate on your "no reason"? Is that just because you can't think of a reason? or is that because you know there is no reason....
Its common knowledge that you shouldn't run full synthetic until the motor has at least been "run in" properly and all the parts had a chance to bed in.
According to HD you can run syn 3 oil right from the beginning, no wait necessary. I believe the CVO's come from the factory with syn 3 in each hole. I have always run syn in each of my HDs with no problems.

the cvo's are shipped with syn3 in them, however I did wait till the 1000mile service to swap mine.
I know in the Service Manual its says 1K oil change. The 1st oil change on my engine was done at the 500 mile mark and it was almost pure silver. I used synthetic from that point on and currently have no issues or engine problems. I would advise to use a more reputable brand oil such as described in this post to include amsoil....
