I once completed a 1000-mile day (Chicago to Denver) when I was in my mid 20's. Never again. It wasn't fun or safe.

I would be up for it, have been thinking about it for a while now. Jus shying away from doing the run solo.

Another idea could also be Laconia and back in a day.

Curious if there a more Long Islanders here that would be game for this and we could run it as a group.

(to the questions about rules: Yeah check out the ironbutt website, there are a few things that need to be done.)

I am sure that we can get one of the LI dealers to be involved with departure and arrival.

let me know what you think

I think New England would be a bad idea. More traffic and more congestion. If we go to Roanoke, once we get onto I-78 in Jersey, wide open roads though PA, MD And VA...

I was thinking of going up to Lake Tahoe and back. It's about 500 miles from Eugene - you could meet us/me there if you want...

In my younger days we did several back to back 1000 mile days. This was done a Moto Guzzi Le Mans. The trick is to don't stop, except for gas, quick snacks at the gas stops. It is easier to knock off the miles if you can ride some interesting rodes and have some scenery to view instead of white lines and bill boards.

I thought it would be fun to see how many softailers have done it or have considered doing it. And if you have thought about it, I will throw down the gauntlet. I will attempt to ride 1000 miles in under 24 hrs sometime this summer - I was thinking maybe in June. Anybody else want to take up this challenge?

Now for those of you who have no desire whatsoever to do this and can't understand why anyone would attempt such a thing, let me just say that this is not about proving something or stroking my ego or anything like that. At least for me. It's just something I want to do because it's there. When I do it, I am not going to keep gas receipts and do all the record keeping needed to get the official Iron Butt Association badge and whatnot. If people want to do that, that's great. I'm just going to do it just to do it. Neither way is better than the other - they are what they are.

Ok, enough with the rambling. Anybody else thought about doing this?
I'd take you up on this, but Uncle Sam has other plans for me in June...

Micah, no iron butt ride where I am, would end up going around the island like 10 or more times, after your iron butt thing you ship your scoot to Hawaii and do laps around the island I would be down for that...LOL...awesome sights for sure!
