It might be cheaper to buy the S but it's a lot more fun and satisfying doing it yourself.

I did out at Sturgis.. 107HP/112TQ. I think I lost a few because im running a more-or-less unrestricted 4" exhaust. Oh well. Considering it cost me about $250 to make the exhaust, i won't complain.

This is true, on the condition that you haven't done anything to your Lo and can recoup some of the money you've paid for it. But for me, I bought mine straight off the truck back in 2010, so it's more sensible for me to just keep making changes to it to suit me, rather than go in on a new bike (like i mentioned in a previous post, my motor makes more power than the 110", stock.. all im "missing" is ABS)

I'll also mention that to powdercoat the rocker boxes, cam cover, pushrod covers (all 12 pieces to them), and tappet covers only cost me $267. And then like another $40 for new gaskets/o-rings and stuff. The same parts from the MoCo is $460 without tax or gaskets.. so it really wasn't that bad of a deal.

I've actually saved a lot of money making things myself.. like the coil relocation kit that DK Customs sells i made myself out of a piece of 1/8" metal i had laying around and some wire.. just as an example.

While I do like the FatBoy S a great deal, i'm just saddened because it doesn't make mine "that much more special", except to me. ya know?

This is absolutely the truest of trues. Especially if you do something really complicated (e.g. build your engine yourself), and it fires up on the first try. Very few better feelings.

I think someone from the motor company has come across this thread and then took the ideas and ran them by production and they said "that's a good idea".

It is a lot more fun to do it yourself. When I got mine in October of 2011 there wasn't hardly any parts listed that "fit" the Lo. So if you wanted something different you had to research it, engineer it, and then go get it powder coated. Nothing better than proving the so called parts experts wrong. When I look back to the beginning of this thread and see all the stuff everyone was figuring out it amazes me, I got a lot of my ideas from right here. That's one of the reasons this thread is so great.

Also..stupid chinese tools free from Harbor Freight.

The oil filter was stuck on, so i did the old drill-through-it-and-use-a-screwdriver-for-leverage trick... snapped the damn screwdriver in half.
Jim, I bought one of these oil filter removal tools from Auto Zone for around $6.00 in 2010 and it works great. No more punching holes in the oil filter if it is stuck:

Looks like Magnum shipped my cable/brake line/wiring kit out yesterday. They quoted 3-5 days to ship and shipped in 24 hours.

Also my cruise control and black levers are scheduled for delivery today.

Sounds like I should have everything by this weekend to finally put my bars on!

Never had a problem removing K&N oil filters with the nut on the end.
