Default Need to replace ignition switch on 06 FXSTI

I am replacing the ignition switch on a 06 FXSTI Softail. When I search part numbers I see HD #71313-96 and #71313-96a listed as replacements. Is there a difference between these two switches? 71313-16 is listed for 95 and above , 71313-96a is listed for 95-06 softails. Wanted to confirm which one is correct before I buy a new switch.

My '06 Parts Manual lists it as the 71313-96a with a note of specifying key code.

I had to replace mine and I went with one from Drag Specialties, part# DS-272187. Got it through Dennis Kirk and their part# H20-242. Now, not too sure about your reasons for a new switch, but for me, the contacts had went bad and you can't buy the guts. So to keep the use of my original key I swaped the guts from the new D/S switch with the original and it worked nicely.

Check out JP Cycles. They carry a stock replacement switch which exceeds the OEM item in quality. Comes with 2 barrel keys all for about 50 bucks. I always replace the switch and keys when I purchase a used bike just for the peace of mind of knowing that I have the only keys to my ride.

Thanks for the information. I will go through Dennis Kirk or JP. Bought the softail during Bike Week in Daytona. Previous owner only had one key w/fob. Decided to swap switch for security and gain a second key. Only thing now is fork lock will be a different core, but I can live with that.

Default Fork lock change

Hi there,

have someone of you found the fork lock in the stores? I would like to change it also. Dennis Kirk has the ignition in stock, but the fork lock - no idea...

warmest regards, Sid

Would be easy... Bought my FXSTI on the auction of salvage items. without keys at all. Rebuilding it now. I'll probably change the ignition losk and the fork lock will be removed completely if ther will be no possibility to change.

Have a nice day.
