Default HELP!! I cut the wrong wires

I purchased the skull series gas covers for my 07 night train - although I admitted I was very "mechanically challenged" the guy in parts said the lighted one was simple to install. Well, the instructions said to cut the wires, and I cut the wrong ones -- not the ones that pull through the tank, but the ones they connect to. I'm sure I can't fix it myself (obviously, I'm an idiot), but my question is - can I drive it to the dealership to get it repaired? I live about 4 miles from the dealer, so I don't have to go far or over 40 mph, but I don't know what I cut, and if the loose wires will affect anything.

Any help is very much appreciated!

thanks
rob

If the wires are colored then it should be fairly easy to just reattach the matching colors. If not...does the bike run? No problems caused by the cut wires? If the bike runs fine and your signals and brake light works, then call the dealer and ride the bike to them so they can fix it. Probably should have them do the additional work so you don't have to worry about it...

Please put some electrical tape on each end of the wires if you can't reattach them to prevent them from shorting out while you're riding over there.

Yeah... just make sure that the wires don't "connect" with each other. Since you cut them off, that should mean that you are ok because no bare wire is exposed. Put electrical tape over the end of the wire bundle and ride it over there.

I imagine, to properly repair those wires, you are going to have to remove the tank. If you aren't mechanically inclined and equiped, then taking it to the dealer is your best choice. Better yet, get a friend to help you that >is< experienced and you will learn something and save some bucks.

You might consider fixing them yourself. It's an simple process using butt splices and heat shrink tube.
