I have an 08 Fat Boy, came with the quick release windshield, 17". When I sit on the bike the top of the windshield is in line with my throat.....that said at highway speed my sunglasses and helmet rattle like a bastard to the point when I next stopped I was dizzy and my head was pounding...Im guessing the windshield is too low???? If thats the case at what height should I go???
The top of the shield should be in line with the tip of your nose.Line of sight just over the top of it.
To see if you are getting buffeting from under the shield, hold your left arm up horizontal in front of your chest to see if the air is coming up from below.
Thanks WoodsHog, Definately too short of a shield then.....Theres a little air coming from under but its ok, doesnt create a disturbance or nuisance while riding.
Between chin and nose should work for you. Mines inches below the nose and works great. If you plan on getting another seat that sits you lower, maybe further back, wait for the shield until you try it with the new seat. Otherwise, you definitely need a taller shield. C&C seats are really nice and at great prices. DrVtwin .com will set you up.
Kuma Ride thx a bunch.....I have a stock seat......havent put on a decent ride yet to know if its comfy or not for the long haul so Ill take you advice and hold out. THX Again.
Actually there are only recommendations for windshield heights... everyone has their own comfort level. For years I rode without a windscreen... then I started using a short windscreen... then a taller windscreen... now in my 60's I prefer an extra tall windscreen... I just outfitted my bike for my Round The Great Lakes road trip with a 24" high x 25" wide windscreen from Cee Baileys... I am willing to look through the windscreen as a trade-off for the fact that it bothers me more to have the wind blowing up under the edges of my glasses... the windscreen is aircraft grade acrylic so that there is minimum distortion... and by keeping it properly polished the rain runs right off it. I can hide behind it in the rain and dust etc and not have to fool with wiping my glasses etc. So I guess what I am saying is that the height and width of a windscreen on your bike is a personal thing and do not get caught up in what is "proper".
