The gasket on my front brake master cylinder must be shot as the paint has bubbled up all around the cover. Need to do something before it gets worse and brake fluid drips on the bike..
Is a new OEM cover and gasket the best solution or has anyone found a better cover or gasket?
hate to say it but with DOT 4 fluid and black painted covers that will happen only options is PC or chrome. my rear cylinder is that way no issues with it working properly just an eye sore
I had that on one of my bikes. Basically I change the cover.
On my new bike I started noticing that some of the braking fluid was leaking through too on hot days. I notice that there was maybe a hint to much liquid and that as soon as I removed a little fluid and tightened the screws half to a full turn more the little leak stopped.
The leak was a common problem on the '07 bikes. There was a batch of faulty gaskets that were installed on the bikes. The service manager at the HD dealership that I go to for service, told me about the problem and replaced the master cylinder lid gasket for no charge.

Thanks man. That is good to know. If its a known problem with the gasket I'll just replace it and touch up the black paint.
it isnt just the -7 ,i have a 08 fatboy and i had mine replaced two times befor i got the chrome one. a guy i ride with has a 09 fatboy and he has had the thing repalsed with a chrome one after us talking . you can use a black master cylinder but you word have to flush out all of the dot 4 and put dot 5 in .and by flush i mean change all the rubber gaskets and flush out the line.dot 5 wont f up the paint.
i fill about .3 to .5 below the top and i replaced the gasket and fixed the leaking. once it starts it wont stop. i put on a new gasket and chrome cover for a few dollars from ebay. i may sell it because i like black one better as it does not reflect the sun in my eyes. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Harle...s#ht_745wt_938
