Default Abs?

Getting mixed comments on the pros and cons of adding the ABS brakes to a bike. Being a newbie I have no idea. I assumed better technology good. At the same time a few folks said do not do it.

Thoughts?

If you're new to riding, adding ABS would be a good idea. Long time riders would have to relearn their braking habits.
We aready squeeze and release the brakes when we feel a lockup.

Been riding 30 years. Got ABS on my Goldwing in 2008. Didn't have to relearn anything. I've only engaged the ABS once and that was on purpose to see what it felt like. The Wing has a very smart braking system. I live in Washington (rain) so I'm glad it's there but I hope I never need it.

If could have gotten it on my Deluxe, I would have..

I'm a big believer in ABS but I don't know if I'd drop the $1000 or whatever I read the MoCo is asking for the ABS package on a softail. Safety equipment is a hard sell for me when it's offered ala carte. Much more palatable when it's standard equipment.

No doubt many riders are alive today because they had
ABS and many are dead or maimed because they didn't.

Should be standard equipment imo. Not having it should be an option.

I had a BMW bike with ABS and I would get it on any bike if it were an option. It does work.

But keep this in mind...not just my opinion, I've read the same thing in a bike mag review of ABS bikes....it makes you go faster! We are constantly making risk management decisions while riding basing our speed and cornering on conditions and our comfort level. ABS changes the game by making you much more confident in your ability to slow or stop in an emergency. So, you ride faster in all conditions, especially bad conditions. This can somewhat reduce the safety advantage of ABS.
