Give it some time and it'll probably burn out on it's own. My 1.75s only last a few k. The "new" louder and higher pitch tone is not as pleasant to my ear so I may order new packing material (again).

Me thinks I need this new packing material. I have to turn my hearing aids off when I ride, wow, have these things got VERY loud after a few k-miles. I have read that some guys have used the fiberglass tape wrap made for fireplaces?? Has anyone tried this?
First I took the packing out. Then I rode for a while with my baffles out too. You might as well try it while they're out! I then ordered Big City Thunder baffles for the headpipes. I have since changed pipes, but still have the BCT baffles for this application if anyone is interested. PM if 1/2 price sounds good.
I pulled my baffles 1.75" shortly after I installed the mufflers and after the bike had been on a dyno. The stock packing was all bunched up in one end of each baffle. I wrapped them with 5/8 inch stove rope, sold at wood stove shops or home depot has it to. I wrapped loosely all the way down the baffles and fastened the ends on the non-perforated ends of the baffles with stainless steel hose clamps. I think it helped the sound some and it's suppose to last longer. Still has a fairly loud sound but not bad.
i've got about 5000 miles on my Rush 1.75s. If they got louder it was gradual and I didn't notice it. Maybe my hearing deteriorated as they got louder. They still sound very good.
