Default How much is too much?

I was checking out a used '04 Heritage today with 22k miles. The bike seemed to be in pretty good shape, a little pitting on the pipes but no other signs of excessive wear or abuse. I guess my question is, does that mileage seem pretty high or am I just not used to seeing used bikes for sale that have actually been ridden? Has anyone here purchased a used bike with similar mileage, and if so how did it work out?

I haven't bought a used bike before but 22k is not bad at all for a 6-year old bike. I've had my Fattie for 9 months now and have 7k on her!!! 22k / 6 years = 3.6k per year. Not bad at all, actually really good.

That is not bad. I bought my fatboy with 10K on it 3 years after it was originally bought. Some things to ask about on that year are if the cam chain tensioners have been inspected and/or replaced as they ahve been known to go bad anywhere between 10K and 70K miles. As far as the pitting, was the bike kept outside?

I asked the salesman at the dealership if the bike was kept outside, of course he told me no. I guess I have no way of really knowing. My neighbor who was with me also told me later that he spotted some rust on the windshield mounting bracket, I missed it. The pitting on the pipes was on the top of the headers, kinda weird.

How close to the ocean do you live? That salt air is hard on chrome. The mileage seems reasonable. Look at it that whatever was going to go wrong probably already did, lol.

22k is nothing. My bike is a 2007 (MY08) so I know its a different engine etc but approximately 2.5 years old, and it has 37,000km which is approx 22,000 miles. I have serviced it well and it is really only just coming into its own - these things are built to be ridden and the engines are pretty basic and tested.

I have a '03 Heritage that I bought about 3 years ago. When I bought it, it had 32k miles on it. The owner road it EVERYWHERE. He had it serviced at every interval, and was well taken care of. Had lots of chrome, Corbin 2-up seat with backrest's, etc... Best part was, I got it for $11k. Just make sure you do a GOOD inspection of the bike first. If they are not hiding anything at the "Stealership", then they should have no problems letting you inspect the bike, or have it inspected.

Get a good service history and it should be good to go. I have an 04 and just rolled 20k this weekend because raising teenagers doesn't leave much time to ride. The only problem I ever had was the harley oil cooler that I added on and it always leaked until I removed it last weekend. I am going to sell the thing for the simple reason that I have gotten tired of fixing the little leaks that would always crop up.
