Well it seems my EFI 2004 Softail Deuce has fallen victim to the pinhole in the fuel pump line. I'm ready to tackle the project myself. I have done multiple searches on this forum, and gotten a lot of good information. I watched the video on how to rotate the assembly. My question is am I crazy for tackling this myself? I don't want to take stuff out then have some crazy suprise that it's not as simple as it sounds. I have the service manual, but it's pretty unclear about replacing the hoses. Is there anything I need to be especially careful of? I have the replacement parts and tools, but just not the experience in dealing with the fuel system.
i replaced mine but the old one was ok. i made sure the twist in the hose keeps it off the inside of the tank. i also made the tool to tighten the hose clamps. take your time doing this. replace the screws for the cover, replace the fuel filter while your there.
I got it fixed today. Wasn't too bad. I saw that one post on here about replacing it with the Gates Submersible line, so that's what I did. Hopefully it's a fix that'll last the life of the bike. I went slow, and it's running well. I ran water through the old line and it was spraying water out of 3 tiny pinholes. It took me an hour and a half from start to finish.
Carquest (where I bought the Gates line) had some low profile rounded edge fuel injector clamps. They're the screw on type. They seem to hold firm. I snugged them up pretty tight so hopefully they won't back off with the vibration.
Long time in lurk mode, first time posting. Thanks for all the great information!!
I too found this problem. Mine had 2 decent sized hole, I wouldn't call them pinholes! (Along with 3-4 pinholes) when I put it in water and ran air through it she looked like an aquarium air bubbler.
I went with the Gates submersible line. Popped it on and boy what a difference. Had far for throttle response and seemingly more power.
Rode for about 7 miles and bam, she just cut off on me. The line blew back off the petcock. So my question is did y'all put a clamp on the petcock end of the line? I couldn't fit a hose clamp through the hole, I'm going to try a ear clamp today.
There is actually a service bulletin from HD on this condition, I'd check with the dealer to see if they would repair this issue without any cost to you.
