Anyone remove the heel portion. Not used to it and I keep wanting to put my foot there. Feels like I would prefer it gone. Can it just be removed?
yes it can be removed and HD sells a cover for the splined end ..i removed mine for about a week and put it back on.looks goofy without it imo
and it helps when finding nuetral when your not actually on the bike ..easier to use heel than toe when standing next to bike
again thats just easier for me maybe not so much for someone else
Yes, I did make adjustments only to be disappointed. I moved the heel shifter down one tooth and it ended up what appeared to be too low and too close to the floor board. I don't think the heel shifter would work in that position. So it went back to the original location.
What I did was to reverse the positions of the two shifters, placing the heel shifter closer to the chaincase cover. I will leave it this way and see if there is any improvement for me. And I will keep using the heel shifter occasionally and try to get comfortable with it. "One never knows!"

Lets put it this way, would you add something to help you find N. Well why leave something just for the sole purpose ? My toe finds it fine whether on or off the bike or using my left or right foot. But then maybe I have some kind of super power that makes me gifted for this task!
I know a guy that takes the peg off the rear lever, flops it over parallel with the front lever. Now there the toe lever is doubled up and he doesn't need to buy a cover for the end of the shaft. IMO it looks silly, but it works for him. He's cheap as hell.
Took mine off Sunday morning, added the cover. There are two parts packages available. One is just the cover or there is another which chromes up the area behind the toe shifter. Added a chrome shifter peg and it really dresses the bike up. Went on a 300 mile ride and loved the extra area to move one's feet around. I will stick with this mod.
