Default Mustang or Mean City?

Ok I've got 5000 miles on this stock Deluxe seat and I'm getting tired of numb butt. 60 miles and I have to get off and walk around. So for those of you with the Mustang wide softail seat or a Mean city conversion to your stocker, how about some help deciding.

I want to be able to ride a tank of gas and feel good.

I had Alan and Brent at Mean City re-work a seat for me, and I love it. When I ride around locally, I use a Danny Gray Buttcrack Solo. But, I have a badlander from a Night Train for longer trips....they worked their magic on it, and I can ride it with no discomfort. Best of all, it was only like $100 to get the work done. Much cheaper than a Mustang.

Funny how people have such different opinions of seats. My wife loves her stock Deluxe seat and 300-400 mile rides are no problem for her.

I bought the Mustang 17.5 seat for my Heritage mainly because I wanted an adjustable backrest. Not really all that impressed with the comfort of the seat itself. Seems harder to me and since it's wider your legs don't fall to the ground quite as easily. If I had it to do over again I think I wouldn't gotten a more narrow seat.

Personally I think they're are alot of other issues besides the construction of the seat that affect long ride comfort such as handlebar fit, floorboards, footpegs, back support, etc.. Even the type of pants you wear. Wallets and pant/underwear seams can have an effect over the course of a long ride.

Mean city has a good reputation and they would probably be our first choice if the wife ever decides she's needs more padding in her seat. She really likes the Deluxe seat style with the rail and all and I doubt she would ever give it up.

Great points here, just taking out my wallet makes a world of difference never mind all the other variables

MCC is great if you need your seat tweaked to make it perfect but in my experience they can't do much for a seat that doesn't work for you at all.

I had my seat reworked by MCC (nice job and it's heated now!), and I have a LaPera for around town, plus I have an expensive gel pad that I can slide underneath for a change of feel. But in either case and no matter what seat or pad, my behind is only good for about an hour. I could be wrong but I'm not sure any seat or pad will fix that completely. Good luck!

I did both: I had MCC insert their memory foam into my my Mustang wide vintage. The new foam went into the seating area as well as the rise in back. At the same time I had them narrow the front a bit. They will do exactly what you ask them to do. Now, while not being by any means too soft, there's a nicely defined pocket where I sit. At the time they didn't work on backrests but they do now -- I'm thinking of sending mine in.

I have had 2 seats done by mean city. a solo that was just cut down and a stock deuce that was cut and memory foamed. Mean City mods the seat to your measurements.

Just my 2 cents
