Default Apes on A Heritage...help

I want to go with apes on my Heritage. I don't know what size to get or how to measure or where to measure from. What height are the stock bars on a 2004 Heritage Classic when pushed forward to the windshield? I think I have stock risers. Any help would be great.

Thanks

Rick

Hey rick, with alot of companies they make there own risers. Carlinis make there own risers to fit the diameter of there bars, they go all the way up to 1 1/2 thick. Burly bars do the same thing. I have 18 inch carlinis on mine, and I measured from the base of the riser. But Im also 6'6'', so I wanted to go higher. Depends on how tall you are. If your 6 ft or under I would stay with 16s or smaller. It also depends on how much you ride, comfort wise. A shorter fella with real high apes, it kinda gets tiring. Higher apes are for hard core fellas like myself, J/k. I have a bro who has 14s on his 1999 heritage and they look damn good, but hes only 5'11 and he likes them alot. Hope this helps

On my last Heritage, I had put on 10" apes. I wanted some rise, but nothing radical.

Turned out they were no taller than the stock bars. I'd have to assume the stock rise is 10".

The apes "looked" taller by design, but the only difference with the grips were angle.

Running stock bars on my current Heritage.

I have been thinking about moving to apes on my 02. Seems like my hands and arms want to be two inches higher and at least two inches farther apart. It just seems stupid how much the brake line and cable cost! dunno if i want to put that much into an 02. if i thought they would fit my next bike and i could keep the stock for a trade or sale it would not be that big a deal. just a rant on my frustration. if anyone has an info for a working man. please let me know. Later, GTG

A taller bar forces you to have better posture when you ride hence relieving that pressure on your back & neck. Keep in mind anything over ten you are going to have to replace the stock length cables as I am sure you know.
This was given to me and I gave this advice to another member as it works, it may sound funny but give it a try. Sit on your scoot and stand it up, then close your eyes for five or six seconds. Keep them closed and reach out as if you had grabbed a set of invisible handle bars. DO NOT open your eyes but feel for the true comfort zone. Without moving your arms open your eyes … see where you are in relation to the stock bars or have someone ( wifey ) measure for you. Measure from the center of the handle bars base to where your imaginary handle bars center of the grip.

Let me know if it works for you!

Get a broom handle, and sit on your bike. Hold it at the height that is comfortable for you and have someone measure the rise from the riser. I like my apes 16" tall. I am not tall either. I have run 12.5"'s and 16"'s and the 16"'s are much more to my liking.

If you post how tall you are maybe people of your same height can post what size bars they have and where the sit. Give you an idea of how all once you know where you want the bars to sit.
For me, im 5-10 and a half ish and I have 16" Carlini gangster apes. They sit about shoulder height or maybe just a tad higher. Carlini do appear to run a tad tall. Mine actually measure about 17 1/2".
Good Luck
