Congrats on the new bike, night trains are sweet, I seriously considered one myself.
About three weeks ago I went on a road trip with some guys and one of them had an 06 carbed train with some killer pipes. That bike sounded so bad ***, to be honest, it made me wish I would have got a carbed bike, I hate how high the FI bikes idle.
I bought an 06 carb train in March. Best thing I ever bought! A friend bought a 06 standard fi and wishes he had a carb! Much cooler old school feel and sound. I agree with the man that stated that you can purchase a fi bike anytime in the future!
The '07 HD lineup has FI across the board...they stopped carbing bikes in '06 due to the EPA/emissions requirements. The FI bikes burn cleaner and get better gas mileage not to mention the ease of tuning on a FI bike...downloads/fuel management systems (SERT, PCIII, Fuelpak, etc.) are fuel/wrench free and fairly simple to work with/modify once you get familiar with the technology behind them.
Obviously some of the above posters have no business doing any mechanical work by their comments. hours to tune a carb? lol a complete rebuild will take less than that. ...and if Ford were to turn out a mustang with the same carb setup as the 85 they would sell like hotcakes, Id buy one in a heartbeat. ...and the 06 carb'd harleys get 8mpg more in the city than the 07efi.
Never gave it a second thought. Loved my EFI 05. Bike was destroyed by a drunk illegal Mexican immigrant. The idle speed is adjustable. You can get it a little lower. It's EFI. Here's a shot of my old one and my new one before they do any of my bolt ons.
