Did you ever check the battery under your seat? I'm not sure if it would cause the weird light issues but my battery died about a week after I bought my bike new in 2004. The dealer replaced it. Sometimes when your car battery dies and won't start the car, it wil still have enough juice for some of the lights to come on.

+1. Check your battery voltage before you tear your hair out trying to find some other problem that may not be there. When your flashlight doesn't work, what's the first thing you do? Check the bulb? Check the switch? You get the idea.
I hate to even ask this except that I just did it today. Did you accidentally turn your ignition switch to accessory instead of ignition? I went to top off my tank. Fueled up and went to start...nothing. Pushed it out of the way, tried a few more times, checked the battery cables. My dash light would come on but no neutral light. Not sure of the other lights. Called AAA thinking I needed a jump since it's the original battery. Of course my AAA plan does not include bikes (figures). Sit back down on the bike and look at the switch, turn it the correct way and varoom! Did I feel like an idiot?!! Fortunately no-one knows, oh, except all of you. Ha.
Let's start out with a simple question and then go from there. You can also find threads all over the forum about electrical issues, including mine. What year is your bike and have any mods (electrical in this case... added or 'upgraded' stuff) been done?
We will presume that you didn't hit your kill switch...
Last of the basic questions... do you have an ammeter, ohmeter, continuity tester?
Thanks for all the replys.....even the most basic questions....i did check all the mentioned above with the exception of using an ohm meter or volt meter. I am not well versed in electrical.
I was able to get to an HD tech from the dealer and with crossing (jumping) the correct wires from the switch we were able to determine the switch is out. I used my warranty to replace the switch. All is good now!

Glad you got it worked out. This is why I have a spare switch in my kit. If it can go wrong, it will and at the worst possible time.
