Has anyone ever mounted the touring hard bags on a softail with easy brackets? How much weight can the easy brackets hold fully loaded? Are they pretty sturdy? Thanks.
I too have the detachable backrest and looked high and low for a sensible alternative to shelling out big bucks. (read: I am a cheap bastard)
Here's what I did. I bought the cheap "U" brackets and installed them on the bike. I then cut the connecting straps from my bags. I lined the bags up and marked either side of the bags and drilled holes in the bags. Using the stainless zip-ties I attached the bags to the brackets. I don't remove my bags, so that might be a consideration for you.
They look great and I have all of $40.00 tied up in them. I have the locking rigid bags that look like leather.
