I took the bars of my springer classic and took off the risers including the stock bushings. I'm trying to install the Gooden Tight poly bushings but I'm having a bit of trouble getting the stud to thread, I have a feeling the top clamp moved without both stock studs and now I can't get them in there. Is there a trick for getting the studs to thread?
Make sure that you have the right thread spacing on the riser bolts (that you should replace when you take them off anyhow-- Grade 8 steel). I dont have springer forks but know that for my Rocker I used 1/2" - 13. So if its not the threading maybe the seating of the bushings? Maybe they are not seated completely prohibiting the bolts from making full contact with the threading? Let me know when you figure it out.
I was panicking for a sec but I was able to get it, the top clamp had moved and I couldn't line up the holes. Loosened the top clamp bolt and was able to line it up correctly.
Thanks for the responses... gonna call it a night and will keep working on installing the apes in the AM tomorrow.
thanks, now the bad part... I got my apes wired internally, clutch cable installed at the tranny clutch cover, throttle and idle cables at the carb. I put the apes on my bike only to find out that I'm inches short on all my cables!!!
I bought the cables from a buddy of mine who had installed 16" apes on his crossbones but took 'em off cause they were too tall for him and I thought they would fit my '05 Springer classic but they didn't. I've placed the order for longer cables but I just hope the ones I ordered aren't' too short as well
when i did the apes on my dyna, i order 6+ over to be safe.... you can always find a way to take up the slack, somehow, to make it more aesthetically appealing
Let me know if you need cables, I am Magnum's number one retailer in the US. I always tell people +6 on 16"'s for the same reason stated above. Many eyars of ordering cables and I have never had them too short.
