Based on this comment by the Grasshopper representative I purchased and fitted the Solo Studded version for my 2010 FLSTC (with stock seats)
"The difference is in the height you can use the solo with passenger pad on but you can not use the regular one without the seat on."

I had a similar question. I asked Grasshopper via their web form and got this response on 5/31, which seems different.
"Ths solo is specifically designed to work without a passenger seat on it is shorter and sits right on top of the seat to give you a factory look!"
So if I understand by the pictures hdgzr - you got the standard one? You use it without the passenger seat?
And Slickster63 you got the solo? Could you get the standard passenger pillion on there if you wanted to?
I had one one my 08 Heritage but have to take it off when the wife rides with me because it makes it harder for her to get on & off due to the fact that I also have a tour pak installed. Now I'm thinking of trying out the adjustable oone from Cavalry. Has anyone ever tried the adjustable one from Cavalry? Thoughts??

Yep, got the standard one. I use it most of the time without the passenger seat; but I also use it with it. Sometimes with Mama on the back, and sometimes when I'm loaded for a road trip.
Anyone that is reading thsi post and would like to buy a Grasshopper backrest let me know. I have one taht was only used once for about 20 miles then I opted for the harley signature seat with backrest. This grashopper backrest I have is perfect and includes the studs and the rear pocket. Shoot me a PM if interested.

HDGRZ,
That looks like just what I need for the trek to Sturgis. I just placed my order for a Grasshopper. What kind of pack are you using? Looks great on your bike and should hold everything I need.
You need a back rest with a stock Heritage seat when running with no passenger seat to keep you from sliding off the bike. One of the reasons I replaced it with a Deluxe seat.
