I do have an extra set of spacers if anyone needs... and I will comment that the 422 with 0 preload and 1 spacer installed seem to handle a 425 pound load on a softail very very nicely.

I am very impressed with the progressive shocks and urge anybody that is on the fence to pull the trigger they were definitely worth the upgrade
Are these the 422's I sold you? Just curious. Good to see the shocks live to ride another day.

Sorry for the novice question, but...

What exactly does the upgrade to the 422s do for the ride? Does it make it feel more like the touring bikes?

Im asking because im looking to upgrade to a 2011 (i currently have a 2008 heritage), for the ABS, and i was considering RKC.

The issue is that I love the seating position of the Heritage, but not satisfied with the suspension, both 1 and 2 up. This is the only reason i was considering the RKC. If the 422s make that big of a difference, I would go with the 2011 Heritage with ABS, and have the 422s installed.

thoughts?

BenG.

The 422's have better dampening and better springs, definitely an upgrade from stock, I have them on my 03 Heritage. For the best softail ride check out Shotgun Shocks.

In either case you should also look into heavy duty fork springs, also from progressive, and Intimidators fork dampening inserts or heavy weight fork oil.

Smoother, less bottoming, more comfortable, cushy?

Stiffer firmer ride if you increase the preload. I personally like a firm ride so I have set my preload to about 1/2 way from the softest.

i would absolutely say it is....my wife and I noticed a huge difference. If your combined load is more than 400 i would say get the spacers like i did. (i have extra) and try these before you sell bike.

for around 400 its a cheap solution compared to a tour bike...and if you still want to upgrade then remove them and resell...easy to get 300 for a used set very fast i bet.

differences i noticed over stockers.
1- better more controlled rebound over dips and large bumps
2- better absorption of smaller bumps and defects in road
3- more tighter feeling in corners
4- best of all, holds combined weight like it was nothing..

i am VERY happy with the upgrade...i personally would buy a tour before i put a 1700.00 air shock on my soft.....but for the 250 i got my used 422 set for...AMAZING...

also....go to SE heavy fork oil at same time....made front just as nice as rear.

my suggestion as the 11 and 08 are pretty much same bike......get the 422s on your 08 and see if you like them enough to buy the 11 heritage...if not them rip em off and go buy the RCC

Great reply, thank you. I would disagree just a bit on your statement on the 8 versus 11. ABS (to me thats huge) larger floor boards, different handlebars, different 5th gear (no whine), different seat (both passenger and rider), etc. Granted, none of those upgrades alone would make me trade (with the ABS being the exception) all combined, i think it might be worth it.

thanks again for the info on the 422s, it was very helpful.
