does anyone know if it is fine to take the front master cyclinder cover off and replace it? Or does that mess with all the breaks? My cover is leaking and eating up the paint around it! I would like to just do a quick replacement but I wondering if it will mess anything up with the breaks.
thanks in advance!
You can take it off with no problems. Be sure to cover the tank to make sure no fluid gets on the paint. And be sure nothing gets into the reservoir while the cover is off.
I don't know why they used the coating they did on the master cylinder. DOT 3/4 fluid eats it up! Now you know why the MoCo sells a chrome cover kit for it.
It's fine to remove and replace. You may want to try some other kind of paint on it, but most paint won't last long in contact with brake fluid. It only takes a couple of seconds of contact to do the damage.
