I think I read somewhere that the top speed of a V-Rod is supposed to be close to 170mph.. but that's a revolution engine, and not a Twin Cam.. I personally can't picture a Twin Cam, even in 6th gear, having the RPM range to get up to 200mph, or even 150, without doing some kind of damage to the engine (on the street, naturally, not on a dyno where no one is sitting on it, and there's little wind resistance)..

They are for giggles and not accurate.

As to WAHog, have you run the bike at a track? My dyno chart shows superior HP and torque across the board and no way could my bike approach 120 in 4th gear. Go a track and get an elapsed time and top speed and post the results. I would be surprised if our bike is as fast as you think.
No havent been to the drags - looking forward to it!

Just a thought though my dyno chart from the stealer showed numbers as high before I had any work done but his dyno was way out. Current dyno deadly accurate. I've ridden a lot of fast bikes, pretty confident it's fast!

crackerbiker... When you're going through the traps @ 107mph in 5th gear, what rpm are you at? Being a 6spd. bike what is the ratio in 5th, 1:1 or? Also being a 6spd. bike what is the overall final drive ratio?

Just wondering...

Thanks,

K.

PS- When I get my new front-end on my FLSTC, the bike will be approx. 80+ lbs. lighter, more stable at speed, brake alot better, and handle better overall. At that point I do plan on hitting Zmax Dragway for some test-n-tune fun!!

I've been 100+ on the Harley. But I did 177 on my GSXR. It was time to slow down and buy a Harley.

NCTurbos:

Good questions. The gears and lower end are stock so whatever the manual says are the ratios.

I did not look down at the tach going through the traps. Will try to do next time.

I may be totally crazy, but isn't the mph at any given rpm going to be the same no matter the mods to the motor? I seem to recall that my stock bike would shift out of gear about the same speed as the current modified bike: the difference being that the bike gets there a lot quicker now.

Yes, unless you change the gearing. Top speed however can be affected by more power if the bike doesn't have enough power in the first place to reach the rev limit in it's top gear.

Yes... Assuming gearing, clutch slippage, tire sizes all stay the same.

FWIW, an internet friend of mine with a very, very similar build as mine making very similar TQ/HP curves went high 11's @ 112mph with very lazy 60ft. times. His bike is a full weight FatBoy.

I'll need to ask him what his trap rpm and gearing is, but I'm sure he could pull another 8mph out of it at some point after the 1/4mi.

I'm not too familiar with the 6 spd. bikes is why I had asked the above...

Couple years ago when i had my Night train 2 guys that my buddy is freinds with came up to visit him the day we were going for a ride. They rode rockets so they came along with us long story short had my trains needle bottomed out at 120 trying to keep up with them!! Dont know how fast i was really going but i dont ever plan on riding like that again and thats why i dont ride with guys on rockets either anymore! Just plain stupid! If i had to guess id say softails depending on the model or weight mind you would be around 130 ish..

no wind drag , very possible ,you would be hard pushed to get over 130 mph on the road

I little off topic, but do Harleys still dominate the hill like they used to? I haven't been to a hill climb since the 70's, and I was wondering if Harleys still dominate the open class.
