What helmet do you wear? Which ones should I avoid?
Looking for a helmet. Only one problem. There are tons of them. I was thinking of getting a half helmet but I am not sure which company sells the best helmet. What do you wear and do you like it? Have you guys seen those half helmets with goggles are they generic? Thanks
Do you think it would be weird to drive a motorcycle with a Military Kelvar helmet or flight helmet? Would they be considered Dot approved? Just wondering.
I have the HD hybrid. It is the best helmet I have ever had. It is as light as a novelty, but it is full DOT. It is quite $$$,but if you have to wear a helmet, ask youself how much your brain is worth to you.
You will find you will build a stable of helmets over time. I have an ACC carbon 1/2 DOT, a NEXL 1/2 DOT, a no name 1/2 DOT, A Licks NOVDOT 3/4 DOT, and a Voss 1/2 Novelty. I wear the Voss almost exclusively. This search will take time, get one that fits comfortably for the time being, and then refine the quest.
And no, any helmet not designed/tested/approved for motorcycle use by the DOT with a permanently adhered DOT sticker on the back is not a DOT helmet.
I'm a Marine and can definitively tell you that our Kevlar helmets are not DOT approved. They aren't much good protecting the brain from that type of damage. Having said that I have worn my flak jacket when riding my bike to the rifle range. That will get you some strange looks at 0400 in the morning.
