first-my dad passed away about 5 months ago and i took over to finish the payments on his bike so i could keep it because it was something that he loved and the bike reminds me of him. i have a small ticking sound when the bike gets warmed up almost like its getting too hot but the oil is pretty new and still looks perfect. my fiances uncle who has always been on bikes says that i might need to do a top end rebuild soon to get rid of the ticking sound. so i was wondering if yall knew of a place to order the parts from. im only finding the gaskets not everything else that i would need. im on a 2004 harley classic softail and i need to know where to get the parts. any help would really be appreciated. i want this bike to last me for a long time. right now it has about 45,000 miles on it and i wanna make it go longer.
second.
his wife said that he has a power booster and that i can have it to put on the bike and i was gonna see what it was and how hard it would be to put on and if its really worth putting on the bike.
is your fiance's uncle a mechanic or anything? not to be rude, but i would rather take it to a mechanic or something before taking the word of a relative..
idk what the power booster is..something that deals with S&S carbs, so can't help you there.
hes not a certified mechanic but hes been on bikes his whole life and knows alot about them and how to fix them, ill still run it by a mechanic but just figured id end up having to do it sooner or later so i figured id see if yall knew any places that would be a good place
both my of my bikes an 07 deluxe that i bought new and it just so happens a 04 heritage softail that just turned 45k. have a ticking noise in the top end. they always have. take it to a reputable mechanic or listen to someone elses "harley" I would bet that theres nothing wrong.
at 45,000 miles i would think it's unlikely a top end issue - meaning rings or pistons, etc..
more likely would be the cam chain tensioners if they haven't been replaced or at least inspected.
only other advice i can offer is that it can get expensive guessing & replacing stuff without a true diagnosis. would suck to rebuild top end & still have the ticking.
1st thing to try to do would be isolate where the noise is coming from.
Start another thread to find a reputible indipendent mechanic neer where you live. Harleys make a lot of noises; ticks, knocks, bangs. No offence to your relitive but I know tons of people who have been around bikes and even work on there own but its your bike and I would hate to see someone spend time and money they didnt need to.
