Default front turn signal relocation questions

I've just installed (not wired yet) a 69079-04 kit front turn signal relocation from the handlebars to under the auxiliary lamps on my Fatboy. I'm ready to wire it and have two questions.
1. I'd like to remove the tank to access the connection under it instead of splicing the wiring in an exposed location. What's the procedure to remove the tank besides the obvious removing the front & rear bolt & disconnecting the fuel line? Does the console need to come off & how?
2. If anyone else did this themselves, did you just cut the old light fixture wires off at the handlebar switch housings? Are any of these wires still "hot" and need to be insulated? Sorry for such a "dumb" question but I don't have access to a wiring diagram.
Thanks.

It's a good idea if you are gonna be doing even some work on your own to get a service manual. If you take the front and rear bolts off you can slide the tank back enough that you should be able to access the plug for the front turn signals I think it's on the right side of the frame. I have an '06 FXSTI and thats how mine worked out. Taking the tank off is more involved and you will want a service manual. Far as cutting the wires if you unplug from the harness no problem. Otherwise disconnect the negative terminal from the battery just to be safe.

I have an '01 FI Fatboy. I just rewired my front turnsignals to relocate them to the lower tripple tree. Taking the tank off is pretty easy. I had to drain the tank at the crossover line. Undo the fuel line. Remove the dash and unhook all the connections under it (there are 3 or four). Remove the front bolt and rear star nut. Then you can take the tank off. It's really not that involved. I would however suggest you get one of those tools that crimps the line for removing the crossover line. Have a length of 5/16" fuel line ready to put on whichever end you remove first to stick on the nipple and a 5/16 bolt to put into the crossover line. Spilling some fuel is inevitable. The connector is just above the throttle bodyt on the right side of the backbone of the frame. You need a pick to remove the connectors. You'll need a good crimpers to crimp the new fittings (MAC tools makes a nice one). Your local dealer can get the appropriate electrical connectors. I hope this helps you. I would suggest buying the bench manual though, it really is worth the investment.

Thanks. That's what I wanted to know. I agree about the manual but it's not an available option right now.

Definitely get hold of a copy of the manual, they should be available either in or through the dealers, some stock them locally, or on line.
It’s a great resource for how things got put together at the factory.

If I have any “issue” with it, its that for some odd reason they don’t list the common auto parts store numbers for things like the light bulbs.
For example I went through it from cover to cover and couldn’t find ANY common number.
I think the head light bulb is a 9003, but I couldn’t find it or the turn signal bulb numbers (1156, 1157) listed anywhere in it, or even the owners manual.
What’s up with that? They think that owners are too dumb to figure out how to replace a bulb?
Seems a little shortsighted to me, especially given the fact that of ALL the bike owners around.
Harley owners are, by and large THE most likely to start fixing or pulling things apart on their own.
Why not tell us up front what bulb is used for something?

I have the manuals ordered but they won't be here for another week. I live 60 miles from civilization.
