I'm changing out my stock shotgun exhaust today on my 08 Fatboy. What combination of tools are required to get to and remove the 1/2" rear lower head pipe nut at the cylinder? Do you need a long skinny extension or what? The chrome oil lines are right in the way.
I used a 1/4 inch drive deep docket with a short extension...snuck it right in, not sure if there's a major difference between 03 and 08, so I could be wrong with your bike
You may need some penetrating oil to loosen the clamp screws. You should also replace the clamps with new and use hi-temp anti-sieze. Although prob not needed, I did put exhaust sealant between the slipons and the exhaust pipe.
1/2" socket on a 6" extension for the flange nuts. Careful not to drop them inside the bike, they will disappear forever. It's always nice to have a few extra on hand just in case butterfingers is invited to the party.

That happened to me when I was tearing 'er apart a few months back. Flange nut bounced once on the transmission case and I didn't see where it went after that. Got a flashlight and after a few minutes of searching, found it had lodged itself under the oil tank. I went and bought one of those magnetic picker-upper tools to get it out. Worked like a charm.
I use a long wobble extension. The wobble lets you offset slightly and not contact the oil lines.
Thanks for the suggestion. I removed the stock heat shields first to allow a little more clearance and then went to the hardware store and got a pack of three extensions (you can't buy just one anymore). I also bought a "wobbly" offset attachment. Long extension and the offset worked well. Putting the new V&H Big Radius 2-1 pipes on, there was much more clearance due to different pipe shape and I didn't need the offset at all. Looks awesome. I'm installaing the SE Heavy Breather and FuelPak today and it's GO time. Pics to follow.
