My '03 will do 100+ counterbalance weights and all. Stock 88 ci displacement, Stage-1 Air intake, K&N air filter, 2:1 exhaust (relatively quiet), synthetic oils.

Now all that said these bikes are not designed to run at high speeds.

They are big, heavy, slow to change direction and even slower to stop.

Fix your bike so it runs right, then sit back and ride.

Paul Harvey.. And now the rest of the story..

Sounds normal to me till U pay the Harley tax and put some money in her to make her breath and run better.

Haven't had mine to 100 but she's seen 85 in third several times.
I know 4th would take her over 100 easy and in pretty quick time.

Put some pipes and A/C with some cams and get a good tune, then U'll have a lot more TQ and HP to reach 100 easy.

I am a little perplexed.... I have a friend with and 05 deluxe and a stage one and I have a stage one on my 10 lo and after some highway fun, of stupid perportions, we were well over 110 without any problems. I know that the factory air boxes really restrict higher speed output but that would be my only explanation unless something else is really going on there.

A buddy of mine has an 06 Ultra a bit on the sluggish side. Sounded good but low performer. He pulled the trigger on the 95 inch with cams and 2-1 thunderheader. He now keeps up with my 103stage two. It runs good.

Prove it.

I purchased a 2006 Heritage last year with only 291 miles on it. When I am on the hwy I will usually cruise at 80 to 85 mph. Today I was on my way back from Daytona and decided to come back on the hwy. I was cruising along at 80 and wanted to see what this thing will do. Well at least for my bike, not much more. The POS barely made it to 100 and that took some time to get there.

Now I love my bike but WTF!!! What a joke! I have to admit that I am not as much of a fan of my ride anymore. I weigh 190lbs which is fairly average, there was abit of a head wind but JEEZ us!
The top speed reported seems rather standard for year, model and build. Bike is a cruiser from factory and not really designed for top end speed. I would not consider it a "POS". Is it possible you may be accustomed to another style/maker of motorcycle?

Never had issues with the 10 or so bikes that I owned or ridden.

And besides that, break in procedures are something that's widely debated. But I have yet to hear of one motor that was destroyed because a person was riding too hard during break in. Half of the mechanics out there would recommend some hard accelleration and high revs during break in.

Prove it that he would destroy his motor by doing 100mph with 261 miles on it. If you can't do it, well then that does prove something...

my '02 softail could hit an indicated 110 mph even in stock form.

i remember seeing a tv show sometime around 2002 where they tested the top speed of a fatboy. i think they got 115 mph

it was broken in within the 1st 50 miles.
the only thing that's really being broken in is the piston rings.
