Thumbs down Guess I bought a DUD

I meant to post this here but accidentally put it in the touring section when i was on my crackberry

I purchased a 2006 Heritage last year with only 291 miles on it. When I am on the hwy I will usually cruise at 80 to 85 mph. Today I was on my way back from Daytona and decided to come back on the hwy. I was cruising along at 80 and wanted to see what this thing will do. Well at least for my bike, not much more. The POS barely made it to 100 and that took some time to get there.

Now I love my bike but WTF!!! What a joke! I have to admit that I am not as much of a fan of my ride anymore. I weigh 190lbs which is fairly average, there was abit of a head wind but JEEZ us!

I guess I didn't give enough info on my bike because iIdidn't want to type anymore on the crackberry PITA. The bike now has 13K on it, it has the SE/AC and V&H BSS along with the sh*** download from the dealer.

To clear things up I am NOT looking from a rocket ship, I am just very surprised at how difficult it was to get the bike to the century mark. I would think after 109yrs of developing old technology 100mph shouldn't be that hard to reach JMHO! I also have NO NEED to be going that fast but wanted to see what the bike would do, that's all!

UPDATE 10/4/11

Performed the compression test as suggested by a couple of posters (thank you guys for helping out) and doesn't seem to be a problem there. Front cylinder was 150psi with the back being 148psi. Also of note the test was done on a 6yr old battery. I think that puts me pretty close to where it should be.

Plugs look fine...... nice grey color. Once again thanks for the suggestion of the compression test!

What gear were you in? Did you downshift and try to run each gear to redline, or just roll on in 6th?

I can't get over 100 in 6th gear but if I keep er in 4th she will hit the rev limiter. Dunno if there is a speed governor on it or what. There is still half throttle at 100 in 6th but won't accelerate anymore.

Might have something to do with being an '06 model with only 291 miles in 4 years. It's not always the best to find a super low mile bike....... another thing to check would be the injectors. Make sure you got the 25 degree units...... other than that, do a compression check on each cyl.

So you have a 2006 5 speed with an 88 CI, and not a 2007+ 6 speed with the 96 CI. I think thats your problem.

Its a large heavy bike. Other makers are using 103+ CI and not getting much more top end.

Maybe you need to bore it out to a 95 CI and do a stage 2 if you want speed.

I would think that 5th gear is an over drive, so that might slow you down. 4th might be faster.

If your only issue is you can not do 100 MPH+ on an older large heavy crusier, I would still be happy.
