Default head light goes out!

It was still dark when i left this morning. In order to see, as i backed out of the obstacle course that is my garage, I turned my bike on. I noticed each time I locked my bars to the right the head light would go out and the blue "brights" light would come on my dash.
I started it up to see if it did the same thing while running.. and it did. It is only at right full lock.

It sat outside in the rain for a few hrs last night.. wonder if that had anything to do with it? ..not the first time its seen mother nature.

Anyways, I'm sure something is worn, being stretched, or pulled funny. But why would the brights indicator come on?? just wondering if anyone has had similar experiences before i dive into this thing.

2005 fxst.

have you changed bars or messed with the wires? Sounds like a bad connector in there somewhere or somethin worked its way loose. shouldn't be too big a deal to track it down, just pull the tank and push it back a little to get to the headlight plug..

before you do that tho is there anything else wrong? did you check fuses and sand down battery connectors and clean em up? hmmm, not sure dude. good luck tho

It sounds like something is getting pinched when the bars are turned to the right. Start with the switch housings and see if there is a pinched wire there. The right one of course.

The Left one you mean... the headlight toggle is on the left switch housing. It hasn't been that long since you converted to the grip-ace set up!! hahaha

Also, when you slide your tank back look at the where the handle bar wires clip into the harness, look for moisture and corrosion. If this is happening at full lock to the right that means it is stretching the left grips wiring....

If the blue high beam indicator comes on when the switch is set for low beam that sounds like something in the switch is wonky. Does the cable get tugged where they enter the housing when the bar is turned?

I had the same problem, remove the headlight bezel and get to the bulb. It is most likely the headlight bulb connector.you may need to replace it or if you can solder.refitt the connector and make sure the tabs are secure. Should only take 30 minutes or so. Good luck!

I had the same issue. The plug that goes on the bulb had one terminal burnt. I replaced the plug and problem solved. I think the high beam light came on as a back feed of power or maybe it's to let us know there is an issue.

hey guys, just thought id give an update... if anyone cares.
Took apart my headlight, nothing out of the ordinary there. took my dash off and unscrewed my tank yanked it back as far as i could without actually removing it. Inspected wires as much as i could but couldn't find anything blatantly obvious.

Started pinching and bending the wire to see if i could find a short.. i could get it to work for a a little bit and then stop working.. and the "short" seemed like it kept moving..

anyways got pretty frustrated put the bike back together and now it works! hahha, left turn! right turn! all works! so.. i guess i fixed it?

gonna look at it closer when i have a full day off.
thanks for all the replies and help.

I have had the copper break inside the insulation...pain in the butt to find. You just have to keep bending the wire to you find the bad spot...then cut, solder and shrinkwrap.
