Need custom taillight for bobtail fender / night train
I want to get rid of the "billboard" license plate bracket on my 07 NT, and move the plate to a side mount. The license bracket is one piece plastic and integrated with the tail light bracket assembly.
Does anybody know where to source a new bracket for the tail light that doesn't have that big obnoxious barge hanging down, without fabricating one?
I've seen some posts in here where guys have cut their plastic piece, but was looking for something a bit more manufactured.

If you take your time and cut it the right way, round the edges and paint you will never tell that the original was modified.
I cut mine. I looked at Joker Machine then decided to try cutting it and go with Joker if I f...ed it up. I think it looks better now than the Joker piece. Went with a low profile smoked LED taillight from Kuryakyn. Saved myself $300.

Thanks Nova, great idea!! Can you send me more detailed pics of the plastic piece. Wondering exactly where you cut it, etc... I love the smoked lo-pro lens... sweet. Does the Kuryakyn piece have integrated turn signals? It looks like you removed yours... just thinking about some options...
Man, I can't stop buying stuff for this bike!! Gonna be a long winter in Chicago, but my ride is going to sure look different when we come out the other side into spring!! HAHA

Hembry,
I couldn't find the low profile smoked with integrated signals so I bought these. I cut it just above the bend below the taillight, and below the raised plastic ring around the taillight. Then used a Dremel to cut off the vertical support pieces left beside the taillight, smoothed it out, and used a hobby airbrush and touch-up paint to paint the area beside the taillight. Really wasn't too hard at all and I'm no pro. I just took my time. Here's a better pic. In the second pic you can see the turn signal mounted on the end of the fender strut. Both the taillight and signals look more smoked in person I guess the flash made them appear more clear.

HD has a new tail light for the softail bobtail fender. It lays up inside the area and looks very good. $240. 69817-07. I'm pretty sure that the bottom half (plate mount) is removable.

Nice job NoVa, but I hope you don't live in New York. Otherwise what you have there is an illegal setup. Nothing wrong with your cutting or the lens, your just missing the reflector strip, and in NY a reflector, of two or three square inches is considered manditory equipment.
They told me about it when I first picked up the bike. I had given them my old Yamaha's plates with a Vietnam Vet holder and they put it on for me. But to get the holder on they had to remove the reflector. When I picked it up the mechanic who "checked me out" on it told me that it was "supposed" to be on there and legally they couldn't give it a safety inspection sticker without it. But the guy just told me "it was on there when I inspected it. If a customer took it off its not my problem".
