Default Need Help with Highway Bar Choice

Hi Guys,

I know there are a ton of posts but I searched and I need more. I have a 2012 Heritage Classic and I want to add the highway bars for fallover protection, Looks, and to add another foot position. I'm 5'9" with a 30" inseam and have had no problems keeping the bike up. None. and I've been in some tight spots so far.

I really don't want to change the look of the bike, I honestly think it's perfect, yet I still want the bars, and I want ones that look like the bike came off the line with them. I can't find any head-on pics of the standard chrome bars that harley offers, pn 49004-00A. It's not the mustache bar or the nostalgic curved bars. At 210 bucks, the price isn't bad, but it's really not about the price, it's about getting the bars that I like and that work for me. They are on the top of page 269 in the 2012 HD accessory catalogue.

I'm just about perfectly comfortable now, but I'd like more position options. If anyone has these standard bars on this year and model, please help me out here. I'll be putting highway pegs on them and need to know how much up and down play I'll have to adjust for the pegs. Also how do they look? If you have a pic I'd Appreciate it.

I also plan on putting a 2" extended heel shifter on so I can slide my left foot back further, and also the floorboard extentions so I can spread out a bit more.

Thanks for an answer on an old topic, but I really need some first hand advice and pics if you have them.

Joe

I'm thinking about going with these. I've actually laid my bike down (gently) a couple times, so....

Update: Bought 'em:

I've got the Linby MuliBar. HD has a similar one. I don't use the built in foot rests on top of the bar, puts my knees too high. I bought it for looks and tip-over protection. It's too narrow for me to extend my feet through it. I tried the HD 360 degree highway pegs, didn't care for the look. On the bar I have, there's approximately four inches of play, up and down, to move your pegs.
At some point I may go with the HD Classic bar.

I have the Linby bar on mine. It came with it, Didn't think I would like it at first, kind of like the old rounded style but it has grown on me. Don't have a head on shot but you can see it in these.

I'm not a fan of the mustache bars and at 6' 2" I wouldn't be able to use the upper foot rests. I have one of the standard HD ones like kzoo's photo. I have short footrest mounts set as low on the bar as they will go. The curve at the lower end of the bar limits how far down it will go. Now I hardly ever use my floor boards.

I'm also 6' 2" and have the standard HD highway bar on my fatboy. I have pegs pretty low on the bar, and also have the Harley Goodies floorboard extensions that push the boards wider by an inch. This allows me to put my heal on the front of the boards and my toe on the pegs for a really comfortable stretched out position for cruising.

6'1" with 32" inseam. Mustache bar with pegs fits perfect. Mustache bar has more lean angle then the standard bar. Rest heel on floorboards and ball of foot on top of peg with pegs in up position. And fold down pegs some times to stretch out.
