Hey fellas first time here great forum . i just wanted to touch on a few things so you guys dont get hassled like i did . I purchased an 06 Standard a few weeks ago from one of the local dealers here . Just before i signed the papers the sales chic walked me around to all these peeps trying to sell me all kinds of things . They walked me over to this " chrome guy " who had a real good line of B.S trying to sell me everything in the catalog . I told him i wanted the stage 1 and thats it ! ..o and gimme a sissy bar for the wench . and i want some loud pipes ! Dude said i couldnt have super loud pipes but i could these slip ons but they are on back order . Told him to wait . They give me this Screamin eagle catalog ..why i dont know cause they wouldnt sell me anything out of it . I noticed these Double Barrel Pipes the 16 gauge ones . I wanted to give them a shot . They told me i couldnt put them on cause my bike has an 02 sensor in it ?!?!? I said " where " ..he says in the " ECM " i said "BS" ..he then said my bike wouldnt run if i put those pipes on ..now this was one of the service guys . So i left called another dealer . the other dealer said i could put the pipes on .the only thing is the Download that HD has is designed for Stage One Air Cleaner thing and Stock Mufflers or slip ons . But the download will work just fine . Bottom line. Get the pipes you want dont always listen to the Muppets that work at some of these dealerships.I put the pipes on myself and air cleaner ..rode the bike to a really good dealership with some smart folks workin there and they got me all set up . and the bike runs great .
I'm just south of Milwaukee and in the middle of about ten different dealerships. If I visit all ten with the same mechanical question, I'll get ten different answers. They can't all be right, but they could sure all be wrong! Methinks H-D has a very large "post-retail" problem on their hands at the dealer level. The service butchers at the dealer where I bought my '05 NT haven't seen it since delivery last February. I'm still trying to straighten out all the stuff they ruined while installing accessories before the delivery. Lesson: buy the manuals and whatever tools necessary; you'll be money and aggrevation ahead in the long run.
And, seriously, am I the only one scared s***less by the tiny toy rear drive belt on the new 200mm-rear-end bikes? That belt has "sudden death" written all over it...
Did I just blow It?? Picking up '06 Heritage Classis from a dealer south of Milwaukee. I'm having them do some minor installs. Can you tell me which dealers to stay away from?
Thanks
im sure they cant possibly mess up a set of Mirrors .. can they ? ..Not all are bad there are some really good people that work for H-D ... One thing i have learned is if you have a question about something call around a bit ..dont just take the advice of one person ..Thats what i do anyways i call all over the state ! Talk to everyone i can.
Well in the next few days I will be adding a few things to my 06 standard. I bought a sissy bar and pad for the girlfriend, sidemounted license plate bracket and waiting on my Vance and Hines Shortshot Staggered pipes. Can't wait to get it all put together. Will have some pics again sometime this week.
So does the new 2006 softails have the O2 sensors in the exhaust or not. I have looked all over my bike ans still can't find one. I think someone doesn't know what there talking about. (My local HD dealer)
I was just reading through this thread. I'm looking to by a new ride in the spring, and am interested in opinion on how the 200 rear tire is working out for riders! I really like the new Street Bob, but I also saw a new softtail standard, and the price isn't much different, at least not once i add the forward controls I'll need for the bob. Those mid controls just leave me feeling too bunced up. I want to keep a close eye on this thread, so i can get some idea which way I want to go!
