new softails
I was just reading through this thread. I'm looking to by a new ride in the spring, and am interested in opinion on how the 200 rear tire is working out for riders! I really like the new Street Bob, but I also saw a new softtail standard, and the price isn't much different, at least not once i add the forward controls I'll need for the bob. Those mid controls just leave me feeling too bunced up. I want to keep a close eye on this thread, so i can get some idea which way I want to go!
Spoke with my HD dealer about the whole O2 sensor issue. While some 2006 models might actually have an O2 sensor all others have what is similiar to a catalytic converter in the exhaust pipe which in turn has a certain back pressure that is registered by the ecm. That is why some HD dealers are trying to thwart aftermarket exhuasts. Seems like the EPA is trying to have it's say in the matter.
Like someone has said before, just talk with a HD dealer that is willing to order sftermarket exhausts for your bike.
My salesman told me to order any pipes I wanted and to not worry about "voiding" the warranty.
I'll let you know how my SE 16 ga. sound on my 2006 softail standard. Hopefully, mid week.
BTW, thanks to all with the feedback.
Man, after reading all of the EFI crap, I'm glad I went with a carb. Dealership put my pipes on and put bigger jets in the carb, runs strong and sounds bad. Also had the rear dropped 2", rides a little harder now though.
Did I just blow It?? Picking up '06 Heritage Classis from a dealer south of Milwaukee. I'm having them do some minor installs. Can you tell me which dealers to stay away from?
Thanks
And, Chopperblu06, as someone else stated hear, only the '06 Dynas are getting the new injection this year. Everyone else will be facing EFI "business as usual". The only thing scary about Delphi EFI is how well it works when it's set up right, and my '05 NT sure came from H-D set up right. My bike's drivetrain is still completely stock. I've ridden it in 100 degree heat this summer, and lately when I come out of work in the morning (3rd shifter) to ride home it has been in the high 30s. I put on my gear, get on the bike, punch the start button (it never cranks more than 2 seconds...sometimes less than 1!), let it idle (smoothly!) for about 5 seconds, and ride gently away. No sputters, burps, hickups, nothing...it just runs!
In contrast, my '87 Lowrider Sport was a real hassle to keep running when it was cold. I understand the newer carbed bikes have enricheners instead of chokes and so are better in this respect, but still...
