When you think about it that really isnt that bad. I spent around 800 bucks on my heads. Then you factor in a couple hundred for a throttle body and a few more bucks for gaskets and stuff you are around 1200-1300 bucks. So that pry isnt to bad.

I agree. I need everything you said. I'm just getting hit with labor twice that I didn't have to. I thought I would be happy. Learned a lesson there, we are never happy!!!

True. But if it wasn't DEALER labor rates, it wouldn't hurt so bad. Around where I live the labor rates for a good Indy shop are about 25% less than dealer labor rates (or more). And, most dealers aren't going to do your head work in house. They're going to send it out and pass along a pretty significant mark-up on that work too. The builder who did my engine did most of the machining in house. He did send the heads out for some CNC machining but I don't think he marked that up at all.

Porting and polishing will not only allow horse and torque gains but it is only freeing up power that is already there. By allowing the motor to run cooler and with less effort

Porting and polishing doesnt make more power as musc as it frees up power that is already there. By allowing the motor to run cooler and smoother you wouldnt regret it.

How ever if the shop doing the porting and polishing does not have a means of measuring the air flow percentages and calculating the CFM rate dont do it. You have to make sure that that same modifications are made to both cylinder heads and that the ports and in proper balance. The shop should have a flow bench if they dont find and shop that does or purchase CNC ported heads either way it will cost ya but it sure is worth it.

Talk to Scott at Hillside... they do everything from a mild street port to stage IV and beyond. You may have the skills and tools to remove the heads yourself, as I did, and send them in? You can save the labor costs, and end up with a great DIY project.

While you have the throttle body off, send it out to HPI for rework... they do a beautiful job for a very reasonable amount.

If all you're doing is heads and TB, it is fairly easy work if you're so inclined.

NDMech and Tunaman hit it on the head. Most don't realize but if you did the heads without the cams they would be very surprised how much more efficient a stock motor can be.Your price is high don't care who's doing it.If you are any where near being competent with a wrench the above ideas from those 2 will get you good results and some satisfaction to boot. These motors and electronics are not rocket science by any means.
