Feeling like i'm getting screwed. What do you think?
Got work done at an independent shop. I got Sampson upsweep pipes. Didn't need any type of fuel management on it. Already have one on the bike. Just purchase of the pipes ($750.00) & labor to put them on. I had a fatboy fender that they chopped, widened a few inches, prepped, & painted. Total bill was $1800. And the paint isn't a perfect match. Difficult to tell but it's slightly darker. They're charging me 16 hours labor.
Did you get an estimate before hand? How many hours did they quote you before hand? The paint needs to match though regardless of the price. Good luck.
Custom work is never cheap. If they widen the fender a few inches, they probably cut it down the middle front to back and added a strip in the middle, and color matching paint is difficult at best. Unless you get everything painted at the same time, there will be a shade or two difference. Even if you have the paint codes, the sun and time has faded the original paint. I'm not an expert but 16 hours does seem a bit longer than it should take.

Didn't get an estimate because I've used this shop for 10 years & they were always the cheapest around & did good work. I was good friends with the owner & he always treated me well. Well, the owner died & now his wife is making the decisions. The shop is about to close because of the death of the owner. Now the wife is trying to hash out the bills due. I don't remember the name of the Sampson pipes that I got, but I did good with them. They were the black fishtails upsweeps. I think they were listed as $790 but they gave them to me for $750. My argument is the fender.
Now I don't know how to fight this. I'm sick over this. I was expecting about $1200 or $1300. I guess it's a hard lesson learned. Always get estimates! Thanks for your responses. Keep them coming.
