Hi all: Last year I had a brake fluid leak which ended up wrinkling the paint around the reservoir cap seal. What would be the best way to fix this? I was thinking of lightly sanding the paint the then apply touch up paint. Not sure how it would look. And I don't really want to replace the whole thing either.

Thanks, Chris.
Same here. Mine's ate up pretty good. Have to scrape off all loose flakes, sand edges smooth, prime & paint.
only real way to paint it is to take it off the bike, clean it up, sand, prime, paint. What about putting the chrome accent piece over it? cheaper then buying a whole new one, and hides the paint problems...
Since you have to clean it up and repaint it maybe try the plastic dip stuff it is a cool look and may hold up better? There is a long thread here on plastic dip and all of its uses. Not sure if it is tolerable to brake fluid or not.
My did that too and then I swap out to chrome controls. No matter if I put a new gasket or not, it eventually would leak and that was just over a 3 month period.
I think someone else mentioned, keep an eye out on ebay and the classified section here, you could probably pick up a take off for next to nothing.
I'm wondering if changing the top plate may help? Like I said, I tried, like many of you probably have changing the gasket and it didn't fix it so I was just thinking maybe the top cover was warped or something.
That is the only chrome piece I have ever added to any of my Harleys..I think over a little time almost every one of those master cylinders leak.It is money in the bank for the Motor Company..
seems like a very common problem bith my brothers bikes have this and neither has ever loosened a screw on the cap? Wierd maybe the gasket they use is crap.
My front one is all F'd up also. I disassembled my whole front end to install apes and have the trees and fork sliders powder coated. Along with that I sent my switch housings and master cylinder for powder coat as well. Hopefully that holds up much better than standard paint when the seal decides to leak in the future.
