I have a 2000 Nightrain and all it lacks for that WOW factor, is some wide meat out back. I really want to get at LEAST a 200mm under it...but there's no way I'm forking out a few grand for one of the kits, thats retarded to me.
Whats the cheap DIY way of going about this? I know the newer softails have 200mm on them factory....will any of that stuff work with modification on a 2000 softail? I know there are more people out there who like to save money and piece together their own kits and modifiy things themselves...let's here what the solution is to avoid paying a few grand for a kit!
I wonder if the newer softails have the same size frame and swing arm as yours. If so its just a matter of swapping out the back wheel for a newer softail wheel and maybe playing with the spacing a little
No....150 tire is about the widest a pre-06 softail can handle, from what I gather. But I wonder if the newer swingarm and other parts will bolt directly onto my bike?
The newer wide tire Softails had bolt on frame horns. If you cut off the factory frame horns and use Harley bolt on frame horns....you can piece together your own "wide tire kit" from all factory parts off ebay.

My kit will eventually be for sale but, it has been modified for a sprocket brake/ chain drive...so the whole deal will be for sale including matching wheels...so it probably won't meet your "budget" requirements

I would think there would be a way to get close. I have an '02 Deuce with a factory 150 tire on it. The screamin' eagle Deuce came with a factory 160 on it, so since the swingarms are the same size, I would think that you could get at least a 160 on any softail with the right combination of spacers. I believe a few on the forums have shaved down the belt pulley a little and fit a 180. But, I think to get to a 200 you would have to change out the whole swingarm for one from an '06+.

Some links and info in thiis post.Been done a ton of times without changing the swingarm. If you can get an 06 and up swingarm, wheel, frame horns, fender, brake caliper from someone that has done a Heartland etc as a pkg deal from someone on E-Bay or one off several other forums around that would be your best bet. A 200 will easily fit a 2k swingarm. The late model belt is the key to making the swap easy.
