There are quite a few people that feel using that grease fitting is a Waiste of time. Those bearings are like wheel bearings on your car and they last a long time. You grease them up on install and only if you have to re-pack them for whatever reason. There was a thread on this ( cant find it ) with a poll and I was surprised to see how many people feel its uneccesary to use that fitting but then it got me thinking.

I am sure HD has something that they consider to be made specifically for everything but I am willing to bet their grease is nothing different than what you can buy down at Walmart. Just my 2cents.

i use what ever is in my greese gun.just like oil is oil every brand is the same.

imo...lucas "red and tacky #2" stays put. Temp rating 500 degrees. Fill the neck until grease comes out the top and bottom...both ends.

I would think that Molly based grease would be good, but not the heavy extreme pressure wheelbearing bearing type grease (too thick) and certainly not the white grease
