Hi All,
I decided to dump the football air cleaner cover and get the nostalgic round one. I saw a topic a while ago where people were having problems with k&n filter and that cover, I scraped of the k&n thin gasket put on the recomended harley gasket and I notice that the back of the cover edges seem to touch the backing standoffs where the breather tubes plug into, just wondering if the guys with the s/e air filter have the same thing or does the cover
not touch the studs, I can get it tight to not spin but the rubbing thing kinda bugs me?
Thanks, JP
I had that same setup and found that the thick rubber gasket kept the cover from touching the mounting posts for the backing plate. But this caused the cover to stick out further than the football cover and it interfered with my leg. So I returned the Nostalgic Cover and purchased the new round SE cover, which fits much better. That new cover is in a supplemental catalog that my dealer had, and suspect that it's made specifically to deal with the clearance issue of the Nostalgic Cover.
Thanks guys, seems to be some fitting issues out there, i think i will put on another k&n gasket, like hogtie says, that may be just enough to get the clearance i need.
JP
I am not sure that the last few replies to your post caught what you are saying he mentioned K & N both of you mentioned se or stage one would not the K & N be different and possibly not fit the same. it works fine with the Harley stage one and i guess that's the same as SE but i think the key word in this post is K & N maybe i am wrong but if he has a k & N filter this may be the problem
