If you walked into an HD dealership with your wife or girlfriend and said she wanted a bike and she was just beginning
The sales person would walk you to one of two bikes
Deluxe or Sportster
Don't believe me try it, walk in to any dealership and tell them those exact words and nothing else
Yes their are women that ride EVERY model, but walk in and say she's just starting and wants a new bike, and those two options come up every time

My buddie's wife had a Softail, and wanted to go with a touring bike because they were taking longer trips. The HD dealer recommended a Street Glide because it sat lower than an Ultra or Road Glide. I guess that means if the Deluxe is the girl's bike Softails, the Street Glide must be the girl's bike of touring bikes.
Both bikes are among my favorites. I prefer the Standard FB over the Lo. I don't mind the solid wheels, but I definitely would upgrade the stock ones with a set of chrome rims -- this really makes a big difference. The Deluxe is also a great bike, and I was choosing between these two and also the Heritage but ultimately narrowed the field to the Deluxe and Heritage. I felt a significant difference in handling with the narrower tires. The Birch White/Midnight Pearl combination looked killer on the Deluxe I was considering, but in the end, the added features, mini apes and comfortable seat of the Heritage won me over.
I feel for you. You really can't make a bad choice, but since you already have a Fatty, maybe it would be good to change things up. I vote Deluxe. I agree that it is arguably the best looking bike HD makes, even bone stock.

I agree completely the SG is probably the ladies choice for touring bikes, but it's also the best bike and most awesome bike that HD makes! Ha ha

I was at the dealer today deciding which of the 2 I would get.I am leaning towards the fat boy lo and would like to put the deluxe front fender on it and get some spoked wheels and true dual pipes, windshield, bags and back rest.. then I can go long distance and then strip it down for scooting around town
I really love both of them. I am a little partial to the Fatboy, I guess. I have been in love with them since I saw the first one in 1990. Swore I would have one some day. Other bikes may come and go, but I can't see ever selling my FB.

My opinion...Deluxe all the way! But than again, I am biased. Just for the record, when i was in Vegas for vacation, I rented a Fatboy for a day to do some touring...I did not like it as much as the Deluxe because it just didn't fit me right. Despite that, it's all about preference...Whatever you like better is what you should get. If I went with a Fatboy, I'd go with a Fatboy Lo.
