Default 2009 Fatboy Security package

i recently bought a 2009 fatboy, and when i got there i found out it has the fobs that have to be within so many feet to start the bike, etc. So i assume that the security package was added to it.

my question is, is there still a way to manually start the bike with a key in case the fob isnt working.
i think the batteries are already low bc when i try to start it sometimes the turn signals just flash and it wont try to start, but if i mess with it long enough it will start. i'd really like to be able to start it w. a key incase something like that happened. 100% electronic just kinda worries me

is there a way to start it if your fob battery dies?

You should have gotten two FOBs........keep the batteries fresh. There is a section in the owners manual that goes over how to program the code so you can override the system if you have to. Follow the step by step and put a # in that you can remember. I would write down the process and keep it with you just in case something happens on the road or just store the manual on the bike if possible.

ok, he did give me a big red owners manual that he bought seperately.
This will have step by step as well as the code? or youre saying i can reset the code as long as i have the fob with me?

also, regularly, with the fob in my pocket i can just walk up, sit on the bike, then start it right?
bc right now its like even w the fob in my pocket the lights start flashing, then it alarms out and wont start the engine. like i said i think the battery is dying but i didnt know if i had to stand beside the bike and turn it to ignition, then wait, then start it, then get on. or i could just sit down on it, turn it to ignition, wait for the fuel pump primer, then go

Sounds like the battery is low on your fob. You may want to see if the dealer you bought it from has the code just to be safe. I have had to use it a few times and for an old guy like me it takes quite a few trys. You have to be quick (and sober) good luck, Mike

The manual (I'm assuming it's for the security system) will give you the steps needed to enter a 5 digit override pin. It will not give you the pin that is currently programmed, Unless the previous owner hand wrote it in the manual somewhere. The code us whatever the previous owner chose. So changing it would be wise cuz if it's not changed he can walk up to your bike and start it whenever he wants! On my Electra Glide I turn the ignition switch on and have to hold both turn signals in within a few seconds. I then can enter the code using the odometer display to see the digits. One turn signal button changes the number and the other will advance it to the next digit. If entered correctly the bike will start. It does sound as if your battery is dying given your symptoms. I keep a spare battery in my tourpak in case it dies out in BFE! With a good battery you should be able to just walk up to the bike get on it and start it. If your o n a android phone I know there is a great app called V-twin reference that gives you step by step instructions for entering the over ride pin. Not sure about i-phones though. Good luck!

My Softail Owner'r Manual is a small 5X8 in booklet........not the Maintenance manual.........anyway the info about the FOB starts on page 58-59. Tells you how to set/disarm the pin and yes if the ignition key/front fork are not locked you can just get on the bike and turn on if the FOB is in your pocket. In your case since you don't have the pin so you'll just have to disarm it and reprogram a new code number (must have the FOB near the bike when you do it). Don't know how sensitive your alarm is but mine is pretty easy to set off.........I just have to turn the forks and it go ape s**t.
