I know how passionate some people are about the oils or fluids they use so go easy on me. When I installed my shotgun shock I went ahead and changed my tranny fluid before I installed it. I had a buddy talk me into trying that Redline stuff. Well, let me just say this about it. My bike shifts much harder then ever before. It clunks like crazy when shifting and even more so when down shifting and my tranny whines like crazy now. I NEVER, EVER had any of those issues with the AMSOIL or the Mobil 1. I have read on here from those who use it and swear by it. My bike just does NOT like that stuff, I can't get it out of there fast enough. I and my bike dislike that stuff so much that my next day off it is coming out of my bike. I want ALL of it out too so I am going to pull my pipe and the side cover on my tranny so I can flush it out and get every drop of that stuff out of there. Seldom do I ever let anyone talk me into anything and this is a prime example why. Of course now I have had a few friends on here talk me into the shotgun shock and that worked out GREAT, I love that thing but as far as the oil goes? I am going back to what I have always used and never had a problem with. I am just glad I only have a couple of hundred miles on my bike with that stuff in it. I know some on here swear by it but I have also seen on here where that Redline has caused others major damage. Me personally? I would NEVER recommend that stuff to anyone. Now all of you who use it can now go ahead and tear into me. The simple fact is, my scooter and Redline are just NOT compatible at all!!
I haven't switched over to synthetic motor oil yet (next spring), but I put Redline in the trans and primary maybe 2 months ago. What Amsoil products are you using in each of those, tbonetony?
Thanks for the input. I had been running Amsoil 20W-50 in all three, but after hearing about how everyone in was getting better results with heavier oils, I put Amsoil 75-110 in trans. Not pleased with it. So a cycle center here just started carrying Redline, so I thought I'd try that per the guys in here. Going to put it in this weekend. Hope I have better luck than you Tbone. Will let you know.
Amsoil 20/50 in motor and primary, 75/110 in tranny. Maybe it's just because my bike was "born" on Amsoil and never had anything else. My bike just don't like it for some reason. If I go back to Amsoil and still have these same problems, well, maybe I have something else going on!!!
Wow, sorry to hear about your bad experience with Redline. I've put over 100 thousand miles on two bikes and never had a bit of problem. The trans on my '07 never shifted smoother or has been so quite. Hopefully you don't have something else going on with the bike.
I've used redline products in all 4 of my HD for a total of moe than 100,000 miles and they shifted and had less engine noise with Redline products
Same here. Best stuff ever, especially in the transmission. Basic logic tells you that Redline Shockproof (or any other name-brand fluid designed specifically for motorcycle transmissions) isn't going to hurt the transmission. I have to think that the OP has something else going on. Hope it's nothing serious.
