So I got the little piggy back from the shop. The guy did a real clean job. He ripped out the entire wiring harness and rewired the bike. He built a little plate and put the choke, a power switch, a start button, power light and neutral light on it. He also made sort of a fuse panel behind the seat. Completely cleaned up the biggest weak point of this bike, my hacked up wiring job. I am completely satisfied with the job.

The only thing I am gonna change is the plate that he mounted the switches to. I will cut the point off the bottom tonight. Tomorrow I will probably pull it apart and paint it black and maybe move the two lights up a little higher and trim the plate even smaller. Too big and shiny for my taste, but hey, he is harley guy and I think he likes chrome so I wont hold it against him.

Also he took her for a rip and he was of the opinion that the motor had more snot than a stock evo. I know a prior owner put about $2,200.00 in to the motor because the receipt is in the folder I got with the bike. It lists pistons and cams and bunch of other stuff but does not specify if it was bored out or if the parts were upgrades or whatever. So this motor may be built up a bit or maybe the extreme weight loss tricked the guy???

Anyway, $650 to rewire the bike. I thought that was reasonable. Seems like a lot of tedious work and custom work at that, not just replacing stock parts.

sorta embarrassed to pay someone to work on my bike........I just cant fookin wire!!!!!!!!!!!

All the circuts and crap that used to be hanging off the front of the tank on the old ignition switch are now nice and neat behind the seat.

Those knuckles would look good as a rear brake pedal.

I dont need to see the lights while riding. I hear about guys payin way more than that to have new handle bars and controls installed on Harleys at dealers. So for a completely new wiring harness with a custom dash and fuse panel.....like I said, I felt that was reasonable.

I also paid the money for peace of mind. There was a short or something somewhere causing the bike to cut out. Ridin like that is a pain in the ***. It is now squared away, reliable and clean lookin.

My brother welded a tab onto the steering head so that I could mount up the gixxer steering damper. Also welded the knuckles to the side of the frame!!

I did some reading here and there. Also guys chimed in earlier in this thread when I was considering a motor swap. One guy posted that he (or a buddy of his) owned a shop and worked on them alot and found them to be a solid unit.

Anyway, just thinkin about it.

I need to as well. Seems like a lot of motor for the money and the bike would scoot like the mother****er!
