Great Ride to Hawk Mountain
It was Sunday, September 23rd. We all met near Collegeville, PA. at 6:30 a.m. and started heading northwest from there. For those who know the area, Hawk Mountain and the roads leading there are very scenic. It was COLD that morning, so we were all looking forward to a nice hot breakfast, except we had 30 miles to ride to get there. The breakfast at the diner was the best! The place was called the Bandit Diner....how appropriate. Hawk Mountain is such an amazing place, and it's even better when you arrive on two wheels. Even the hawk watchers at the peak embraced us! We spotted 4 different species. We were skeptical about how we'd be received, even though we are all outdoorsmen. On out way out, we stopped at the Mohammad Ali training camp where all of the greats once trained, including Sonny Liston. Who would think that there'd be a boxing training camp, in the mountains, at the foot of Hawk Mountain, and once owned and operated by Mohammad Ali? Very cool! After that, we made a stop at Cabelas, which was the perfect finishing touch. We spilt up 5 miles down the road. My buddy and I headed one way on our Springers, and the other two headed east on hwy 78 to make family deadlines at home. The ride back was also very scenic....and much warmer
! 165 miles were added to the odometer.I'm the third one from the left, wearing the green and white flannel shirt.
