I recently installed a pair of bag bars on my Heritage Classic. Today I removed the saddle bags to clean the rear wheel when I noticed the right side of the rear fender had substanially more room between the tire and fender than the left. Idid not noticedany indicationthe tire has rubbed but am concerned that this is not right. How does everybody elses fenders fit?
I hope I have not misaligned somethng when replacing the rear fender supports. I even took them back off and re-installed them with the same result. Any guidance would be appreciated.
I had the same experience... changed out the rear fender strut bolts and noticed the way off alignmet..
i asked multiple dealers/techs and non harley mechanics and all said its normal.
they said its to balance the wieght of the primary on that side and allow the bike to ride upward.
I'm in the process of replacing my wheels with Weld 18's. From what I understand HD built them that way until they went with the 150 tire (2003, I think). Something to do with the way the drive train.
The rear tire is offset approx 1/4" to the left. It's normal.
Thanks guys. I thought I had trulymessed something up by simply adding more chrome. It still looks like it going to hit the fender on heavy bumps.
Now I can put everything back on except the passenger seat. Waiting on the HDforum recommended hand tightened passenger securing nut from JP Cycles. Had to get it before I had pics of my gouged rear fender on here.
same with my 5 n-t. 1st tire didn't rub second one did. dealer said it did it cause i lowered it. What a crock of chit. Took a portapower and spread the frame rails and no more problems. Neighbors fat boy had the same problem. he went with a 1/8" hub spacer on the left side and machined the rt.side axle spacer and slot in the caliper the same 1/8".
belt still lined up nicley. find it hard to believe the offset could be felt while riding as a bs dealer tries to explain.
i have the 2010 fatboy lo i just notice that one side of the fender is closer then the other side people wirth the fatboy lo said nothing to worrie about they are made like that. anybody seeing that on the fatboy lo thanks ????????

Oh Man I'm hosed. My primary side is 20 lbs lighter now after going to open belt primary. That's just great, now I'll go down the road tilted to my right.
