I want to remove my rocker box covers on my 2008 rocker to have them powder coated. Is there anything else more to it other than removing those bolts on top of the rocker boxes?
From what I can tell the rocker box covers have two parts to them, a top half and a bottom half.
I'm also considering powder coating the push rod covers and the part which is at the bottom when're the ouch rods go into the case.
You guys that have done this have any suggestions for me before I dive in?
Hey Alain,
Don't forget to take your tank off.
I don't know if this will be helpful or not but I recently took the push rods out when I did my cam swap. You can read about it here.
if you are doing it we can coat our exchange set we have here in the shop, send them your way, so you can do it all in one sitting, then send your stock ones to us. it is a really simple swap... can coat them any color you could possibly want!
Hi ..I have the Roland sand design rocker covers and gloss black powder coated lower from eBay and have order gloss black pushrod covers and housing , think a put a new cam also. Have a nice ray fr.o.m. Sweden
I was thinking about your idea of PC'ing the pushrod tubes. I'm not sure how well this will work in the long run. The clips that hold them in are a real tight fit, if you PC them, and then force them in, you will most likely chip the PC. I know you can touch it up with enamel but just figured I would warn you. Paint might not be as durable but much easier to mask off and shoot to touch up.
I would take up Joe (Powder pro) on the swap, little downtime is awesome.
remove gas tank, remove upper rocker box cover, remove rocker box, remove lower rocker box cover. Now how can i get the push rod covers out for PC? I cant just lift the push rods up can I?
You can lift the push rods out once you have the rocker assembly out. The lower rocker box does not have to be removed, unless of course you are having it PC'd as well.
Thanks mica. I am actually considering keeping the push rod tubes chrome. Do I still need to take the gas tank off to take the rocker covers off?
I have a 3 inch lif on the front of my gas tank so I think I can get away with not having to remove the gas tank. As far as the back cover, I'm thinking on just removing the bolt that holds the bottom of the gas tank to the frame and just lifting the bottom of the gas tank in order to get enough clearance. You think that would work?

I've heard nothing but good things about your powder coat man. Shoot me a price on the rocker covers coated in Gloss black (not sure if that can be done since those suckers get hot).
