Thanks mica. I am actually considering keeping the push rod tubes chrome. Do I still need to take the gas tank off to take the rocker covers off?
I have a 3 inch lif on the front of my gas tank so I think I can get away with not having to remove the gas tank. As far as the back cover, I'm thinking on just removing the bolt that holds the bottom of the gas tank to the frame and just lifting the bottom of the gas tank in order to get enough clearance. You think that would work?
Hey Alain, I think it's going to be pretty tight but if you're just doing the upper cover, it would be worth it to at least give it a shot. I think you'll want to cut down an allen wrench so that it's real low profile. If you want to do the lower covers as well, you will definitely need to remove the tank.
One thing to keep in mind, with the tank in place, you will not be able to torque some of the bolts to spec if that's important to you.
bro!!! i wana do mine now!! dammit more money to spend..
I'm telling you man. Just look at the pic in your signature and picture it. I think it would look bad ***. I'm going back and forth between doing the pushrod holders or not.

Good luck!
Looks like I'm gonna have to remove the tank. Damn! I just filled it up to the top and put the stabilizer in it for the winter lol. I was really trying to avoid removing that thing man, last time I took it off that gas went all over the place lol.
I just remove the front bolt and loosen the rear and put a piece of wood in the tunnel to hold it up a bit more and I can get mine off without any issues. Slow go but it works.
I was able to get the top half off both covers (front and rear cylinder) and the torque plates. Gonna tackle the bottom half of the rocker box covers tomorrow.
One other question. I was reading something in the manual (and someone earlier in the thread mentioned) about turning the engine in order to be able to put the torque plates back on when it comes time to assemble everything. Something about the pushrods and the cams being in a certain position. Having a hard time understanding the concept. Can someone run it by me again?
put the pushrods back in with the top half of the rocker box covers off (so you can see the tips of them sticking out)..
(yeah i know, the bottle covers are off in that photo...but you get the idea)..
remove the spark plugs so the air can escape from the cylinders.. jack the back wheel up, throw her in 6th(or 5th for 5 speeds), and just spin the rear tire until the pushrods are in their lowest position (it's move obvious than you think)..
