Default Picking up new bike?

Has everyone here rode there bike home after purchasing it or have you made other arrangements to get the bike home (ie) delivery, towing, etc? Thanks.

I have always ridden mine home. I even rode my wife's first one home. Didn't get away with it for the second one though.

Regards,

Bill

I made very detailed arrangements to get mine home.

I swung my leg over the seat, kicked back the jiffy stand, turned the electric switch to the left, put her in neutral, flipped the run switch on, waited for the prime light to go out, pressed the start switch on, put her in first gear, let out the clutch and rode home. It took a lot of planning but it all worked out for the best. Bikes are made to ride, not take for a ride.

I hadn't been on a bike in 25 years and the weather was pretty crappy when I got mine. I didn't want to wait to check out my Harley, so they delivered it.

It was March. There was a foot of snow on the ground. It was about 10 degrees out. The dealer is an hour plus away.

I drank coffee while the trailer backed into the driveway. (They delivered it).

I rode mine home four weeks ago on the clearest Saturday we have had in a long time...not a single cloud in the sky. I stayed in the right lane all the way home, keeping under 50 miles an hour. It was really odd to ride my Deluxe after owning a Big Dog Chopper for 18 months. I only rode the chopper 2500 miles during the time I owned it. I calculated the mileage per day on the Deluxe and found that I am riding it twice as much as the chopper...go figure. Several of the members on the chopper forum really gave me a hard time about making the move to a Deluxe. One member replied "more comfortable...insurable. what were you thinking?"

Picked mine up was 39 degrees out and the 130 mile ride to my girlfriends was cool to say the least. But couldn't wait another day. Damn knees shoke for a half hour when I got off lol.

I was too much of a noob when I bought mine. Wussed out and had it delivered, but I did the right thing at the time. If you do not have seat time in a bike (other than the MSF class), keep us all safe and have it delivered. Practice locally until you gain confidence to keep yourself safe as well as the carload of kids you may endanger.

Once you get confident, ride like hell.
