Default Fatboy Lo shifting free play?

Ok, so I just got my Lo back from the HD shop, and I was told there is some free play in the shifting still. I was told to ride it around and it should work itself out.

I'm confused as heck to be honest. I tried to do a little video showing...

Basically when I shift from first to second, and up and up, once it goes to the next gear I have to actually move the shift lever down some before it will allow it to shift to the next gear. The same problem when I'm down shifting.

It looks to me like your shifter linkage is too long and not stopping where it should? Have tries adjusting it? You may have it set a little long.

I haven't tried adjusting it. You'd think the guys at a Harley dealership would have done that already? This is why I'm still confused.

could possibly be a really easy fix. pull the shifter off and check the pivot shaft for the shift levers. not on the tranny, up by your foot. could possibly just be corrosion binding up the rotation enough to prevent it from springing back correctly. some emery cloth on the shaft, or maybe some WD-10 might help out.

agree with what Camo is saying. Every yr we get some in here who's bike shifting level is sticking. Usually some oil and or cleaning takes care of it.

Mine did once several yrs ago. Since then I put a couple drops of oil on that area at every oil change.

I've seen several in here add a grease Zirk to it.

Read through some of these for more in depth help.

They didn't do anything cuz they have less of an idea than you. If the above suggestions don't work, and I hope they do, the return spring in the trans may be broken.

You're confused as to why they didn't do anything like what was suggested in here. I'm saying they didn't because they don't know what they are doing. And you're paying those guys $80/hr. At least the abuse and help you get in here is free!
